April showers - five top tips to wake up your garden

Now it is April, everything is starting to come to life in the garden. If, like me, you have been itching to get out and get your hands dirty, now is the time to start planning for the year to come.

Here are my five top tips for making the most of April showers and waking up your garden:

1. Bag yourself a bargain - if you are out and about - check out the sale tables in your local garden centres and nurseries.

2. Spend time not money - really prep the area your going to plant in, add mulch to the soil, test PH, moisture and light levels.

3. Research your plants - what kind of garden do you want? Look at colour, form, texture, type

4. Place twice, plant once! When you have taken the plant plunge for late spring/early summer, place your new plants on top of the soil for a couple of days, place twice plant once!

5. Make a statement! Look for a statement plant that really tells people about you and your garden.
